SoD: “Awesome God”

Today’s song was prompted by John Hobbins, who recently posted on marriage as a model of the relationship of God with his people as it is meant to be. This is in advance of a marriage he is officiating this weekend:

“How did a TULIPy Waldensian pastor get asked by a flaming Pentecostal couple about to leave, together with four others as missionaries to Moldova, to do their wedding? Like all good stories, it’s a long one, and I won’t tell it here. But a song we sing, “my God is an awesome God,” comes to mind.”

Awesome God
Lyrics and music by Rich Mullins

Verse
When He rolls up His sleeves
He ain’t just putting on the ritz
(Our God is an awesome God)

There’s thunder in His footsteps
And lightning in His fists
(Our God is an awesome God)

And the Lord wasn’t joking when He kicked ‘em out of Eden
It wasn’t for no reason that He shed His blood
His return is very close and so you better be believing that
Our God is an awesome God

Chorus (2x)
Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God

Verse
And when the sky was starless
In the void of the night
(Our God is an awesome God)

He spoke into the darkness
And created the light
(Our God is an awesome God)

Judgement and wrath He poured out on Sodom
Mercy and grace He gave us at the cross
I hope that we have not too quickly forgotten that
Our God is an awesome God

Chorus (2x)
Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God

Our God is an awesome God (Our God is an awesome God)
He reigns from heaven above (He reigns from heaven above)
With wisdom, power, and love (With wisdom, power, and love)
Our God is an awesome God

Our God is an awesome God
Our God is an awesome God

  • Words wither and blogs fade away…

Forgive me if you’ve heard this song before, but I've decided to stop blogging at He is Sufficient. I truly appreciate all of the wit, wisdom and words of faith that you have shared with me over the past few years. I wish you well in all of your endeavors, whatever they may be and wherever they may lead you. “God is sufficient for the needs of His people”. Amen!
