Paul is not writing to you!

Brilliant. The mantra (”Corporate, corporate, corporate… Paul is not writing to you!“) of a former teacher is ringing in my ears after viewing this 5-minute clip of a Gordon Fee lecture/sermon on “Being the People of God in Unity and Community”, set to visuals.

It is so easy to slip into an individualistic interpretation of Paul, but almost invariably he is writing to churches, not individuals (except when specifically noted in his greetings and endings). I need to explore more of Fee’s writing along this line.

I never saw Paul’s letters as being applicable to the body but rather to the individual. Now more than before I see his writings to the person rather than the body because of Reformed Theology.

The use of the pronouns in Romans 8 & 9 clearly are meant to the individual, it would turn the passages upside down if they weren’t .
